The BASIC 10-liner contest is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, and has just announced the results of this year’s competition.

The rules of the contest are simple. You need to write a program in BASIC in just ten lines for an 8-bit computer. There are four categories, which we’ve listed below alongside the winners in each group

PUR-80​

Program a game in 10 lines (max 80 characters per line, abbreviations allowed)

PUR-120​

Program a game in 10 lines (max 120 characters per line, abbreviations allowed)

  • Wazers by Victor “Vitoco” Parada (Atari 800 XL)
  • Tendrive 120 by Arturo Dente (Commodore 64)
  • Azten Challenge by Arturo Dente (Commodore 64)

EXTREME-256​

Program a game in 10 lines (max 256 characters per line, abbreviations allowed)

  • Repeat after Simona by Victor “Vitoco” Parada (Atari 800 XL)
  • Wizard of WASD by Angry Dill (Atari 800 XL)
  • Over and Over by IvanBasic (ZX Spectrum)

SCHAU​

Pixel Art Animation / MSX2

Code a program in 10 lines (max 256 characters per line, abbreviations allowed – can be a demo, tool or application program)

  • Pixel Art Animation by Renato M. de Rezende (MSX2)
  • Sierpinski 10Line by Marco Varesio (ZX81)
  • The Square of X by Charlemagne (Commodore Plus/4)

WILD​

There is also a WILD category for programs that do not fit the rules.
