Dedicated TV Game

Launch 1973
Launch 1984

“This category is where we’ve lumped in all the non-cartridge TV-based ‘pong boxes’. Many of the early systems were based on General Instrument’s integrated circuit chip, the AY-3-8500 – which played a variety of pong-type games. Later integrated circuit chips by General Instruments included ones that could play racing, card, stunt bike and tank games.

## Emul
As these games systems don’t use microprocessors, and instead use dicrete circuit chips, traditional emulation hasn’t been viable. Though there is software that simulates the behavior of the chips, and work has been done to recreate and emulate the chips using FPGA.

Platform | Emulator | Notes
:- | – | –
MISTer FPGA | [AY-3-8500 Emulator](https://nerdstuffbycole.blogspot.com/2020/01/end-of-year-update.html) | “It’s centered around a verilog description of the original microchip that was extracted from die photos”
Windows | [WinArcadia](http://amigan.1emu.net/releases/) | AY-3-8550 and 8600 chip simulation
