Flight simulation has never been a genre inclined to take root in a console environment. More than a few arcade-oriented specimens have enjoyed success here and there, particularly Namco’s Ace Combat games, but interface issues and the prevailing taste of the market seem to have kept more complex air combat games out of the picture. Presently, however, Taito has plans to change that, with a solidly realistic flight sim for PlayStation 2 due to hit Japan in December. Entitled Energy Airforce, it’s to combine realistic control with exacting visual presentation — if nothing else, it should be an interesting change of pace from Ace Combat’s flights of fancy.
