Wolfenstein 3D, was released in 1992 by id Software, and is a landmark first-person shooter that popularised the genre. It built on the foundation of Castle Wolfenstein (1981), which introduced stealth-based gameplay in a World War II setting. Wolfenstein 3D shifted the focus to 3D fast-paced action, helping to define modern FPS games.
And now, you can (almost) play ‘Castle PETSCII-Stein 3D’ on the Commodore PET.
Jim Orlando, who as previous crafted various PET demakes such as Lemmings, and Donkey Kong) is attempting “to get a first-person shooter a la Castle Wolfenstein 3D running at reasonable speeds on a Commodore PET”
You can see the current version in the video below, which has weapon choice between knife / pistol / rifle, full 360 degree movement throughout the map, and bad guys that fire back.
Nowhere to download at the moment, but we assume it will show up on Jim’s Itch.io page in the future 🙂
