In Net Yaroze Month, we are playing every Net Yaroze game featured on the UK Official Playstation Magazine, and ranking them all in the order we liked them. You may have other opinions as to the ranking, which is awesome.
To learn more about Net Yaroze, read our introductory article here.
Down is one of those games that really shines in multiplayer mode. Down supports up to four players, and if more than two players are playing then you’ll need to share a joypad (one player uses the D-pad and one player uses the Action buttons)
You start at the middle of the screen, which is constantly scrolling upwards. If you don’t move you’re gonna get squished by the spikes at the top, so the only way is downwards.
There are several levels you can jump on to: Standard levels, conveyor belt levels, bouncy levels, and spiky levels. The spiky ones will kill you. As will falling off the bottom of the screen. Whoever is left at the end is the winner.
You can play this single-player, but it’s so much more fun with friends. And there’s funky music too.
Reminds me a little of the Amiga game Base jumpers.
