Net Yaroze Month: Clone

In Net Yaroze Month, we are playing every Net Yaroze game featured on the UK Official Playstation Magazine, and ranking them all in the order we liked them. You may have other opinions as to the ranking, which is awesome.

To learn more about Net Yaroze, read our introductory article here.

When Doom arrived at the end of 1993, it pretty much changed gaming forever. For one, the PC became a viable gaming platform, and secondly – while it wasn’t the first first-person shooter, it was the one that everyone wished they’d made and influenced a crap-ton of games after it. Golden Eye, Marathon, Halo, Half Life, Call of Duty… the list goes on. Basically pretty much all FPS owe a massive thanks to Doom.

In fact, the term ‘First-Person Shooter’ wasn’t the term originally used to describe a game that was inspired by Doom’s gameplay.

These games were simply called Doom Clones.

Hence the name of the final game in Net Yaroze month: Clone. If you hadn’t worked it out by now, it’s a Doom clone.

The game is straightforward. Get keys, open doors, pick up first-aid packs, and avoid bad-guys.

Clone only has one bad-guy to shoot. A skeleton with blue eyes. THEY ARE TERRIFYING.

Clone is a scary claustrophobic, and while it won’t any best-FPS awards, it is certainly good fun.
